PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eldon Richmond (ranked 25353 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Ham (ranked 5858 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jeff Ham was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eldon Richmond!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jeff Ham!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Ham.
Richmond managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Ham.
Richmond gets back to half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ham in particular looking to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ham is working for a submission of some sort.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ham takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Richmond is looking for a sweep. Ham is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Richmond might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Ham wants to work for an arm triangle but Richmond is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Richmond works his way to full guard. Good work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ham seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Ham is fighting to break Richmond's control of his arms but Richmond is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ham is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Ham closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Richmond pushes Ham off and gets back to his feet.
Ham is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Ham not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Ham is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Richmond could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Ham postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Richmond to stand up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Ham fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Richmond to the ground. Ham is now in Richmond's guard.

Ham gets to his feet. Richmond looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Ham drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Ham working the ground and pound but Richmond is defending the strikes.
Ham moves into full mount!
Richmond is breathing heavily.
Ham controlling the pace for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ham thowing shots but they're missing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeff Ham dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Ham's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Ham duly obliges.


It looks like Eldon Richmond has been cut.

Ham closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Richmond to the mat! Richmond manages to get full guard.
Ham looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Ham gets to his feet. Richmond looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Jeff Ham seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ham lands a big head kick that sends Richmond tumbling to the mat! Ham takes a step backwards and waves Richmond back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ham scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!


Richmond is rocked!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ham feints a kick and comes over the top with a right hand, followed by a left hook - both land, sending Richmond crashing to the mat! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:12 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Jeff Ham!
