PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kylar Sensei (ranked 459 p4p, 53 weight class) and Vika Partio (ranked 721 p4p, 80 weight class). Partio comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Boom! kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kylar Sensei!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Vika Partio!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Phil Schofield and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sensei shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Partio tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A head kick misses from Partio.
Partio throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Sensei bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Sensei working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Partio has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Partio pushes Sensei away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Sensei gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Sensei tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Sensei cracks Partio with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Sensei wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Partio, who protects the arm well.
Partio is trying to control Sensei's posture but Sensei avoids it.

Partio throws Sensei to one side and escapes!
Partio throws a leg kick which misses Sensei's front leg but catches the back leg as Sensei tries to avoid it.
Sensei misses with a takedown attempt - Partio sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Sensei is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Partio.
Sensei blocks a low kick nicely.
Sensei fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Partio throws a low kick, looking for Sensei's leg but Sensei calmly moves out of range.

Sensei closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Partio to the mat! Partio manages to get full guard.

Sensei stands up over Partio, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Partio wants to sweep here but Sensei controlling him for the moment.
Partio lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Sensei is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Sensei has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Sensei has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Partio is working away from the top position though.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Partio looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Partio wants to control but Sensei is keeping him busy.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Sensei looks to land a right hand but Partio moved out of range.
Sensei dodges the punch combination from Partio.
Sensei looks to score with a jab to the body but Partio is just out of range.

Partio rushes Sensei and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Partio works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

and Sensei counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Sensei throws a body shot but no joy.
Partio was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Vika Partio will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Partio will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Sensei throws a body shot but no joy.
A left lands for Sensei.

Sensei with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Partio to score with a decent uppercut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sensei ducks under a wild hook from Partio.

Partio shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Sensei throws a shot from downtown. Partio moves away and avoids it.

Sensei takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Sensei takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Sensei cracks Partio with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Sensei takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Partio takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Sensei throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Partio sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Partio looks to throw the jab but Sensei is out of range.
Sensei misses with a wild body shot.
Partio looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Partio takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Partio buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Partio gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sensei sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Partio's guard.
Partio moves into full guard.
Sensei won't allow Partio to sweep him here.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Partio controls Sensei momentarily but Sensei frees himself.

That was a close second round but I would say that Kylar Sensei will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Sensei throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Partio stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Partio walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Partio thuds his right hand into Sensei's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Partio fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Sensei is out of range.
Sensei has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Partio finds it's way round the side to connect with Sensei's head.
Sensei fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Partio manages to avoid it.
Horrible takedown attempt by Sensei or perhaps it was just good defense by Partio, which made it look bad.
Sensei's corner calls for a 1-2. Sensei obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Sensei darts in looking for a takedown but Partio gets double underhooks and turns Sensei into the cage.

Partio feints and then cracks Sensei's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Sensei down.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Partio lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Sensei has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Sensei and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Sensei closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sensei lands in his opponent's guard.

Sensei throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Partio tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Sensei is in Partio's guard.

Partio has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Sensei has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Sensei is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Partio to keep the fight standing.
Partio throws a punch but it's blocked by Sensei.

Sensei has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Partio uses from the top position.

Sensei jumps guard but Partio turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Sensei lands a nice shot to the body.
Partio lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Partio scores with a nice hook to the head.
Sensei jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Partio walks away with a smile on his face. Sensei gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Partio uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Sensei.
Partio flicks out a counter leg kick but Sensei steps away.
Oh Sensei is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Partio has closed the distance and engaged Sensei in a clinch.
Partio lands a hook to the side of the head.
A head punch on the inside from Partio fails to land.
Partio throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Partio lands a nice shot to the body.
It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Partio misses with a short punch on the inside.

Partio's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Partio drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Sensei right on the button. Sensei goes down! Partio follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Partio gets the win via TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 4, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Vika Partio!
Vika Partio decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
