The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Firouzadeh. No joy for Kubo on that attempt.

Kubo gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Kubo jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Firouzadeh walks away with a smile on his face. Kubo gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Kubo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Firouzadeh paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Firouzadeh feints a jab promting Kubo to slip. Firouzadeh then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Kubo slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Firouzadeh has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Kubo regains guard immediately.

Firouzadeh postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kubo is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Firouzadeh, into his guard.

Firouzadeh seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Kubo throws a half hearted mid kick.

Kubo tries to close the distance and clinch up but Firouzadeh swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Firouzadeh changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Kubo lets loose with a powerful body kick. Firouzadeh will feel that in the morning.

Firouzadeh escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kubo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Firouzadeh is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kubo is aware though and is defending well.
Kubo is pushing down on Firouzadeh's leg trying to pass to half guard. Firouzadeh is fighting to maintain full guard but Kubo has managed to sneak the leg through.

Kubo is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Kubo content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Firouzadeh has locked up a guillotine! Firouzadeh's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Kubo is holding on here and Firouzadeh must be using up a lot of energy. Kubo has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Firouzadeh gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
