PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dreamiest Panda (ranked 3491 p4p, 141 weight class) and Ben Reed (ranked 25105 p4p, 151 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dreamiest Panda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ben Reed!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Dean Styles and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Panda bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Reed's head backwards.
Reed takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Reed lands a body shot.
Reed throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Panda.
Dreamiest Panda seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Reed slips under a jab from Panda.
Reed defending well as Panda loads up on a big left hand.
Reed throws a fast counter high kick but Panda manages to duck under it in time.
Panda lands a jab to the head.
Reed is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Reed closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Panda misses with an uppercut
and Reed counters with a thumping low kick.

A countering left hand to the body from Reed misses.
Reed just misses with a punch to the body.
Panda sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Reed counters with a body kick that stops Panda in his tracks momentarily.
Reed's coach down at Crapollas Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Reed's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Reed looks to score with a jab to the body but Panda is just out of range.

Reed misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Panda has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Crapollas Gym in the buildup to the fight.

Panda ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Reed moves away.
Reed avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Panda throws a looping overhand right but Reed ducks down to avoid it.
Reed changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Reed throws a quick inside leg kick.
Panda is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Reed keeps Panda at a distance using the push kick.

A decent looking cross lands there for Reed.

Reed is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.
Reed throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

A nice side step and Reed releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Reed uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Panda.
Reed is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Panda misses with a hook. Reed ducked under it nicely.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Panda is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Reed.
Reed lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

and Reed counters with a left and a right that stings Panda.
Reed swings for the body but Panda moves out of range.
Panda swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Reed fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Panda manages to avoid it.
Panda uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Reed.

Panda stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Reed.

Panda throws a big shot that misses.
A shot to the body from Reed misses
and Panda makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Panda throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Reed stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Panda takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Panda throws a lazy right hand but Reed sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Reed doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Reed throws a left and a right that both miss
letting Panda counter with a right hand.
Panda scores with a nice head shot.
A head kick by Reed misses
and Panda counters with a stiff right hand.
Panda connects with a crisp jab.

That's six minutes gone in the round.
Reed lands with a slapping head kick.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Reed's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Panda connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Reed scrambles back to his feet.
Reed goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Reed on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.


Reed is rocked!
Panda lands a nice looking body shot.
Reed is still on wobbly legs! Can Panda finish him?
Panda rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
letting Reed counter with a right hand.
Reed throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Panda.
Panda lands hard precision jab right on the jaw that stiffens Reed up and sends him tumbling to the mat! The ref grabs Panda from behind before he can pounce. Some folks in the crowd didn't like that stoppage, but I saw Reed's eyes roll way back in his head, he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 6:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Dreamiest Panda!
