The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ruger throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Carruthers was covering up waiting for the punch and Ruger finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Ruger lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Ruger is in close to Carruthers's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Ruger seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Ruger trying to control the position from guard on top but Carruthers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Carruthers is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carruthers is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Ruger stands up over Carruthers, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Carruthers wants to stand up but Ruger is controlling him.

We've been hearing good reports from Ruger's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Carruthers tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Ruger has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Ruger breaks from Carruthers's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Carruthers takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Ruger's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
