PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Walter Warner (ranked 25388 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Long (ranked 3778 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Walter Warner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Justin Long!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Columbo Gatti and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Warner clinches.
Warner tries to break the clinch but Long is controlling the position.
Warner is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Long avoiding damage as Warner throws knees to the body.
Long is pressed up against the cage. Warner has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Long down to the mat. Long avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Warner tries to close the distance and clinch up but Long swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Warner tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Long manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Long changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Warner throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Long's waist but Long gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Warner off to one side.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Long tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

and Long counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

and Long counters with a shoot takedown. Warner fights it but they end up in guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Long seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Warner misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Warner shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Long sprawls well. Long wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Warner gets slowly back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Long is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Warner can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Long controls the pace.
Warner is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Warner has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Long kicks off Warner and gets to his feet.
Walter Warner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Warner wants to clinch up but Long keeps it at a distance.
Warner doesn't manage to clinch there - Long circles away.
Long changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Long has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Warner fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
And Long tries to counter it with a takedown but Warner pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Warner is wriggling around but Long manages to pass to half guard.

Warner is staying active underneath Long, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Long is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Warner is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Long. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Long's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Warner wants to get back to full guard but Long has passed into side control.
Long in side control, just content to control the action for now.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Long blocks the strikes from Warner.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Warner throws a few strikes from the bottom but Long takes advantage and mounts!
Warner regains half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Justin Long showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Long not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Justin Long comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Long winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
