Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frank Mir Jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, El Torito!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, John Mangel and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mir Jr gets the takedown into side control.

Mir Jr decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Mir Jr pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Torito blocks a head kick by Mir Jr.

Mir Jr closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Torito did well to prevent Mir Jr getting side control.
Mir Jr prevents Torito from improving his position.
Torito is looking to escape.

Torito is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mir Jr pulls his head out easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Torito tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mir Jr swats him away and circles back towards the center.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Torito manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Torito blocks an elbow strike.
Torito is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mir Jr pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Mir Jr is looking to stand up but Torito isn't so interested in that idea.
Torito postures up in Mir Jr's guard and throws a big left but Mir Jr blocks it.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Torito accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Torito swings for the body but Mir Jr moves out of range.
Mir Jr half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Frank Mir Jr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mir Jr uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Torito.
Torito throws a series of punches but Mir Jr avoids them all with ease.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Torito fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mir Jr manages to avoid it.

Mir Jr throws a nice looking combination but Torito bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mir Jr is trying to trip Torito. He has hold of a leg but Torito is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Mir Jr persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Frank Mir Jr overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mir Jr throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Torito tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Mir Jr is in Torito's guard.

Torito is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mir Jr defends well.

Mir Jr throws a right hand that Torito ducks under and follows up with a left that Torito also avoids with ease.

Frank Mir Jr is winning the standup battle so far.
Mir Jr tries to land a front kick but Torito steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Mir Jr fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Mir Jr throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Mir Jr drives through with a takedown into guard.

Torito manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mir Jr jumps guard and drags Torito to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
El Torito has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well Mir Jr has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
