Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Manager Yanic!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rogerio De Souza!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Dean Styles and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yanic darts in looking for a takedown but De Souza gets double underhooks and turns Yanic into the cage.
A big right from De Souza misses.
Manager Yanic seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Yanic feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

De Souza is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Yanic looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Yanic avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Yanic tries to free his leg and advance position but De Souza is retaining full guard.

Yanic got a little sloppy there for a moment and De Souza has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Yanic has managed to get both his arms back between De Souza's legs - danger averted.

Yanic trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Yanic has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Yanic stands and throws De Souza's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Yanic remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

De Souza tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Yanic wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

We've been hearing that Yanic has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
De Souza wants to control but Yanic postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

De Souza tries to bench press Yanic off him but Yanic keeps the position.
De Souza gets back to half guard.
Yanic content to control rather than advance.

De Souza is staying active underneath Yanic, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Yanic is thwarting De Souza's attempts to control the position.
Yanic drops an elbow to the side of De Souza's head.
Yanic working over De Souza with some ground and pound. De Souza looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
De Souza won't allow Yanic to pass to mount.
Yanic seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but De Souza does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
De Souza gets back to full guard.
Yanic lands a couple of digs.
Yanic content to stall in guard here.

Yanic is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but De Souza has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Yanic is looking to defend but De Souza has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Yanic! De Souza pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Yanic taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Rogerio De Souza!
