PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Greg Bell (ranked 1588 p4p, 71 weight class) and Wolfgang Übensplikt (ranked 3412 p4p, 131 weight class). Übensplikt has chosen More Than Nothing as his entrance music. Wolfgang Übensplikt will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Greg Bell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Wolfgang Übensplikt!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Übensplikt wants to clinch.

Übensplikt shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Bell has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Übensplikt can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Übensplikt got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bell has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Übensplikt has managed to get both his arms back between Bell's legs - danger averted.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bell is adopting a defensive guard.
We've been hearing good reports from Bell's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Bell is looking for a triangle here but Übensplikt uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Bell gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bell makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Bell.
Übensplikt works over Bell with some ground and pound from guard.
Übensplikt is looking to work some ground and pound but Bell has wrist control.
Bell is looking to sweep but instead, Übensplikt has passed into half guard.
Bell wants to control but Übensplikt is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Bell works his way to full guard. Good work.

Bell looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Übensplikt passes into half guard.
Übensplikt sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Bell defending well though.
Bell is looking for a sweep. Übensplikt is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Übensplikt tries to clinch up.
Übensplikt dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Bell tries to clinch but Übensplikt is having none of it.
Nice sprawl there from Bell as Übensplikt shoots in.
Bell walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Übensplikt has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Übensplikt bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Bell's head.
Übensplikt moves in looking to clinch but Bell pushes him off.
Greg Bell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bell takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Übensplikt closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bell did well to prevent Übensplikt getting side control.
Übensplikt lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bell regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Übensplikt.
Übensplikt throws an elbow that misses. Bell uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Übensplikt's guard. Nice move by Bell!

Bell postures up.
Übensplikt is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Bell trying to control but Übensplikt is working from the bottom.
Bell working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Wolfgang Übensplikt has got the better of the ground game so far.

Bell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Bell's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Übensplikt wants to stand up but Bell is controlling him.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Übensplikt is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Bell chips away with some ground and pound.
Übensplikt keeping moving, preventing Bell from controlling successfully.
Bell is really struggling to control Übensplikt but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Übensplikt is looking to stand up but Bell isn't so interested in that idea.

Übensplikt looking for a guillotine here but Bell defends easily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Übensplikt stalks Bell and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Bell's face. Bell staggers backwards, shaken.

Bell with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Übensplikt to score with a decent uppercut.
Übensplikt lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Übensplikt jabs at Bell's body.

Bell forces Übensplikt back against the cage and clinches.

Bell pulls guard.
Übensplikt pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bell is keeping the position for now.

Bell working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Übensplikt doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Übensplikt manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Übensplikt distracts Bell with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Bell is trying to control the position but Übensplikt postures up.
Übensplikt throwing strikes from guard but Bell blocks nicely.
Übensplikt really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bell. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Bell looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Übensplikt's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Übensplikt postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wolfgang Übensplikt showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Bell tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Übensplikt swivels and escapes.
Übensplikt is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Bell fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Übensplikt manages to avoid it.

Bell shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Bell not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Übensplikt wants to sweep but Bell has passed to side control!
Bell working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Übensplikt is looking to control Bell's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Übensplikt avoid being mounted?

Übensplikt tries to get to full guard but Bell has control of the leg.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Übensplikt can do anything to dispel that myth.

Übensplikt wants to get back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bell takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Übensplikt has Bell up against the cage in a clinch.
Übensplikt effectively controlling the action here.
Übensplikt has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Bell avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Bell has picked Übensplikt up - he's going for a ride! Bell dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Bell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Übensplikt keeps working.
Ground and pound from Bell.
Übensplikt tries to roll over but Bell keeps him under control.
Bell has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Bell breaks from Übensplikt's wrist control and lands an elbow.


It looks like Wolfgang Übensplikt has been cut.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bell connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Greg Bell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bell landing strikes from the mount and Übensplikt is in trouble!


Wolfgang Übensplikt's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Wolfgang Übensplikt's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Greg Bell!
Greg Bell very nearly forgot to thank IniTech Nutrition amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
