PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Norman Pederson (ranked 3588 p4p, 484 weight class) and Crixis Deathstroke (ranked 2969 p4p, 415 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Norman Pederson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Crixis Deathstroke!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pederson tries to clinch up but Deathstroke circles away and keeps his distance.
Deathstroke shoots in for a takedown but Pederson shows good takedown defense.
Pederson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Deathstroke.
Pederson misses with the combination.
Deathstroke fails with the takedown
and Pederson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Norman Pederson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Crixis Deathstroke.
Deathstroke pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Pederson was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Pederson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Deathstroke to the ground. Pederson is now in Deathstroke's guard.
Pederson wants to control from the top but Deathstroke keeps moving.

Deathstroke working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pederson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pederson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Deathstroke is on top in guard.

Deathstroke bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pederson's guard.

Deathstroke wants to pass the guard but Pederson is defending well.
Deathstroke has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Deathstroke takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Deathstroke can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pederson is looking to escape.
Pederson is bucking up trying to escape but Deathstroke cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Deathstroke lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pederson bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Deathstroke gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
letting Pederson counter with a right hand.
Pederson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Deathstroke circles away quickly and effectively.
Deathstroke dives in and grabs Pederson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Pederson pushes down on Deathstroke's head and hops out.
Deathstroke fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Norman Pederson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Crixis Deathstroke.
Pederson tries to clinch but Deathstroke is having none of it.

Deathstroke drops back, looking for a kneebar! Pederson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Pederson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Pederson!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Deathstroke felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Pederson is having to fend off submission attempts from Deathstroke, who is looking to sink in the choke. Deathstroke doesn't have the hooks in though and Pederson manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.
