PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Ford (ranked 25263 p4p, 0 weight class) and Math Doyen (ranked 7592 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Anthony Ford!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Math Doyen!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, William Peck and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Doyen throws a head kick but Ford moves out of range.

Doyen has managed to clinch.
Doyen stalling in the clinch.

Ford has picked Doyen up - he's going for a ride! Ford dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Ford stands up out of the half guard.

Ford closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Doyen to the mat! Doyen manages to get full guard.

Doyen scrambles and gets back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A slapping leg kick lands for Doyen.

Ford has Doyen up against the cage in a clinch.
Doyen misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Ford prevents Doyen from breaking the clinch.
Doyen is looking to control Ford's arms but Ford gets an underhook and turns him. Now Doyen has his back to the cage.

Ford successfully pulls guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ford has his foot on Doyen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Doyen works his way back into a safe position though.
Doyen wanted to stand there but Ford had control of the position.
Doyen stops Ford from standing up.
Ford has his hands on Doyen's head, controlling the position.
Doyen wants to pass the guard but Ford is keeping the position.

Ford looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Doyen works over Ford with some ground and pound from guard.
Doyen being controlled here momentarily.

Ford working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Doyen has passed into half guard!
Ford could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Doyen is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ford lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ford looking for submissions off his back.

Ford looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Doyen is trying to work for a kimura but Ford is defending well.

Ford looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Doyen performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Doyen wants to take a breather but Ford is having none of it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Doyen blocks the strikes from Ford.
Ford controlling the position well.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Doyen has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.

Doyen looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Ford pushes Doyen off and gets back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Anthony Ford will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Ford shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Doyen manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Ford got a little sloppy there for a moment and Doyen has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ford has managed to get both his arms back between Doyen's legs - danger averted.

Ford decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Ford tries to sprawl but Doyen drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Ford manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Doyen keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ford breaks from the clinch.

Doyen throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ford was covering up waiting for the punch and Doyen finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Ford has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Doyen off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Doyen is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ford closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ford lands in his opponent's guard.
Ford might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Ford sitting in guard here, content to control.
Doyen has momentary wrist control but Ford slips an elbow through the middle.

Ford stands up and waves to Doyen to follow him.

Ford shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Doyen napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Ford controls the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ford decides to stand back up. Ford steps back and let's Doyen get back to his feet.

Ford shoots in and bounces Doyen off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Ford gets to his feet. Doyen looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Ford closes the distance and pushes Doyen back into the cage.

Doyen works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Ford is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Doyen has his hands clasped together but Ford extends and breaks Doyen's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Ford.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Anthony Ford!
