PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Devin Blanchard (ranked 25240 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Partin (ranked 6054 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Devin Blanchard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Partin!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Partin is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Blanchard's half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Still in half guard, Partin seems content to control.
Partin's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Partin is looking to advance position but Blanchard won't allow it.
Partin slows the pace down in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
It looks like Partin might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Partin throws the kick towards the body but Blanchard avoids it.

Partin looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Blanchard!

Blanchard seems a little lost for a moment, as Partin dominates the positioning.
Let's hope that Partin has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Blanchard could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Partin takes a little break here. Blanchard wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Partin shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Blanchard's guard.
Partin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Blanchard swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Partin stands and throws Blanchard's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Partin looks up at the clock and then as Blanchard takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Partin smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Partin is putting a hurting on Blanchard here, landing some big shots from side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Blanchard is trying to escape the position but Partin is controlling the position.

Partin fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Blanchard sprawls well initially but Partin persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Partin seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Blanchard won't allow Partin to pass to mount.
Partin with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Partin works his way into side control.

The referee asks Partin politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Partin prefers to stall for the moment though.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Partin goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Blanchard rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Partin's guard! Nice work there by Blanchard!
Blanchard is fighting to break Partin's control of his arms but Partin is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Partin pulls Blanchard in close to prevent any damage.

Blanchard got a little sloppy there for a moment and Partin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Blanchard has managed to get both his arms back between Partin's legs - danger averted.

Partin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Partin wants to sweep here but Blanchard controlling him for the moment.
Partin is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Partin feints and as Blanchard raises his hands in defense, Partin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Partin is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Partin slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Partin is continuing to stall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Partin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Blanchard shoots in but no luck this time.

Partin shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Blanchard napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Partin is persistently looking for the submission but Blanchard is defending it well.
Blanchard rolls, trying to escape but Partin keeps control of the position.

Partin has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Blanchard has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Blanchard wants to control his opponent's hands but Partin gets his hands free.
Partin slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
More stalling from Partin.

Partin is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Partin with more of the same as he continues to hold on.
The referee is taking a good look at Blanchard as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Partin!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
