PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tony Bunker (ranked 1024 p4p, 33 weight class) and Josh Turner (ranked 951 p4p, 30 weight class). Turner has chosen Next Episode by Dr. Dre as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tony Bunker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Josh Turner!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, William Peck and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bunker thows a left - swing and a miss!
Turner walks into a straight right hand from Bunker.
Turner comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Bunker takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
A slow jab from Turner misses its intended target.
Bunker loads up on a big right hand but Turner slips the punch.

Turner scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Bunker struggling a bit here.
Bunker is trying to get back to half guard.
Turner wants to control but Bunker is keeping him busy.
Bunker is looking to reverse the position.
Turner misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Turner misses with the ground and pound.

Bunker is trying to control Turner's posture but Turner avoids it.
Bunker tries to bench press Turner off him but Turner keeps the position.

Turner has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Turner wants to control but Bunker is keeping him busy.

Turner wants to control from the top but Bunker keeps moving.
Bunker is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Turner tries to free his leg and advance position but Bunker is retaining full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Turner accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bunker wants to sweep here but Turner controlling him for the moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Turner misses with a body shot
and Bunker cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Turner misses with a low kick.
Turner shoots in looking for a takedown but Bunker manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Turner's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Turner drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bunker wants to sweep here but Turner controlling him for the moment.
Bunker is pulling down on Turner's head. It's preventing any offense from Turner, at least for the moment.
Bunker looking to hit a scissor sweep but Turner is one step ahead there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bunker has control of Turner's left arm, preventing Turner from doing any damage.
Bunker keeping moving, preventing Turner from controlling successfully.
Turner looking to sit in guard and control but Bunker gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Turner has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Bunker is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Turner.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Turner keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Turner closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bunker did well to prevent Turner getting side control.
Bunker is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Turner's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Turner's back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Josh Turner has got the better of the ground game so far.
Turner tries to escape but Bunker has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Bunker lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Bunker has Turner flattened out and is raining down punches.
Bunker has the hooks in. Turner is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Turner turns into Bunker and is now in his guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Turner is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The fighters are battling for position here. Bunker manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Turner stands up over Bunker, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Turner is looking to pass into half guard but Bunker pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Bunker is in guard.

Turner is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bunker is aware though and is defending well.

Turner bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bunker's guard.

Turner slips nicely into half guard.
Turner is trying to control the action in half guard but Bunker is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Bunker is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Turner's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Turner's back!
Bunker has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Turner's body.

That's time! Bunker's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Turner closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
You can see the frustration on Bunker's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Bunker is pulling down on Turner's head. It's preventing any offense from Turner, at least for the moment.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bunker gets back to full guard.
Turner postures up in Bunker's guard and throws a big left but Bunker blocks it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Josh Turner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Turner has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
