Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pedro Slater (ranked 24165 p4p, 0 weight class) and Uziel Almonte (ranked 5815 p4p, 0 weight class). Pedro Slater has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pedro Slater!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Uziel Almonte!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Reed Andrews and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Almonte shoots and misses

and Slater counters by moving into the clinch.
Slater looking to throw knees to the head but Almonte is blocking nicely.
Almonte tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Slater smiles and moves away.
Almonte fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Slater avoids it really well and circles away.

Slater moves into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Uziel Almonte seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Almonte jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Slater walks away with a smile on his face. Almonte gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Almonte manages to pull guard.

Slater stands and steps away. Almonte gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Slater moves into range and clinches up with Almonte.
Almonte drops down looking for an ankle pick but Slater pulls his leg out and moves away.

Slater has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Slater's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Slater counters by moving into the clinch.

Slater gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Almonte regains guard.

Almonte is trying to drag Slater to the mat but Slater just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Almonte takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Slater really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Slater throws an elbow that misses. Almonte uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Slater's guard. Nice move by Almonte!

Almonte stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Slater swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Slater working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Almonte doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Almonte manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Slater manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Almonte manages to get himself to full guard.

Pedro Slater overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Slater will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Almonte manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Slater is looking to wear down Almonte with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Slater lands a nice hook to Almonte's body. Almonte takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Slater feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Almonte is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Slater dives into side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Almonte takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Slater lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Almonte down.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well Slater has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
