Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Justin Long!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, John Roberts and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Velez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Long but Long pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Velez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Long changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Velez is concentrating on defense, preventing Long from advancing position.

Velez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Long paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Velez misses with a takedown attempt - Long sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
And Long tries to counter it with a takedown but Velez pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Velez has his foot on Long's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Long works his way back into a safe position though.
Long is standing up over Velez. Velez looks to escape but Long dives into side control.

Velez is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Long is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Velez sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Long. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Long remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Velez shoots in looking for a takedown. Long tries to sprawl out of it but Velez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Long manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Long wants to control from the top but Velez keeps moving.
Velez is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Velez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Well Long has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
