PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Mikson (ranked 2971 p4p, 416 weight class) and Damatang Camara (ranked 2874 p4p, 402 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mike Mikson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Damatang Camara!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Ben Watson and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Mikson with that takedown attempt.
Mikson has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Camara.
Camara slaps away a takedown attempt from Mikson, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Camara has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Mikson is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Mikson shoots in and gets a takedown into Camara's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Camara keeping moving, preventing Mikson from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mikson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Camara swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Camara is looking to stand up but Mikson isn't so interested in that idea.

Mikson drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Camara dives on top into guard.

Mikson has a closed guard, preventing Camara from standing up.

Mikson is looking for a triangle but Camara pushes his legs off easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Camara avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Mikson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Camara gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mikson wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Camara is now in half guard.

Mikson is doing well to control the position and prevent Camara from advancing to side control.
Camara prevents Mikson from improving his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Camara wants to stand up but Mikson has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Mikson makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mikson.

Mikson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mikson is trying to keep Camara in close.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mike Mikson will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Mikson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Camara gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Camara lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Camara lands a hook to the side of the head.
Mikson is trying to drag Camara to the mat but Camara just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Still in the clinch, Camara scores with a nice short uppercut.

Camara prevents a takedown attempt there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Mikson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Camara lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Mikson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Camara uses from the top position.

Camara lands a brutal head kick. Mikson looks out on his feet and Camara throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:10 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick and Punches). Damatang Camara!
An out of breath Damatang Camara thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
