PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mathias Rekve (ranked 7341 p4p, 571 weight class) and Jason Gavin (ranked 8700 p4p, 622 weight class). Jason Gavin told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mathias Rekve!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jason Gavin!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Wagner Zegers and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gavin fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rekve, pushing him back against the cage.
Gavin is trying to pull guard but Rekve turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Gavin is trying to break the clinch but Rekve is controlling him.
Gavin looking for a takedown.
Gavin has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Rekve avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Mathias Rekve has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Gavin.

Rekve manages to capitalize on a mistake by Gavin to take his back!

We've been informed that Gavin has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

so Gavin counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Rekve has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Gavin has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Gavin jumps guard but Rekve turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Rekve tries to throw a body punch but Gavin avoids it by throwing Rekve back against the cage.
Gavin has had enough of the clinch but Rekve keeps him there for the moment.

Rekve escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Rekve drives through and clinches with Gavin against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rekve wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Gavin has him pressed against the cage.
Rekve is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gavin can do to turn this around?
Gavin jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Rekve walks away with a smile on his face. Gavin gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Rekve escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gavin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Gavin tries to clinch but Rekve moves out of range.
Rekve seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Gavin shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rekve but Rekve pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Gavin fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Gavin tries to clinch but Rekve is having none of it.
As Gavin tries to get set, Rekve tries to push him back and clinch up but Gavin manages to avoid the attempt.
Gavin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rekve paws at him with a jab and circles away.
No luck for Rekve with that takedown attempt.
Rekve scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
