Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Leonardo Nandez (ranked 3370 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chongyang Lu (ranked 3002 p4p, 0 weight class). Leonardo Nandez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Leonardo Nandez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Chongyang Lu!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Bart Greer and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nandez lands with a nice combination. Lu backs away looking to recover.

Lu darts in and clinches Nandez up against the cage.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Nandez takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Lu breaks the clinch.

Lu moves into range and clinches up with Nandez.

Lu pulls Nandez into guard.
Nandez wants to control from the top but Lu keeps moving.
Lu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nandez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Nandez missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Nandez trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lu has his hands on Nandez's head, controlling the position.
Lu wants to stand up but Nandez is controlling him.

Lu seems keen to control Nandez's posture.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Nandez or perhaps it was just good defense by Lu, which made it look bad.
Nandez tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Lu defends well and Nandez ends up having to push Lu into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Lu drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Lu controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Nandez wants to sweep here but Lu controlling him for the moment.

Nandez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Nandez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lu doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lu manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Lu throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Nandez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Nandez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lu pinned against the cage. Lu gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Leonardo Nandez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Lu takes one on the button.
Lu darts in looking for a takedown but Nandez gets double underhooks and turns Lu into the cage.
Nandez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Horrible takedown attempt by Nandez or perhaps it was just good defense by Lu, which made it look bad.
Lu leaves Nandez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Lu's coach down at Island Safe Space was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Lu's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Nandez tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Lu defends well and Nandez ends up having to push Lu into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Despite the aggression on Lu's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Nandez.
Nandez is breathing heavily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Nandez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
As Nandez backs off Lu throws a huge counter combo but Nandez manages to avoid it all.
Lu lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chongyang Lu dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Lu shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Nandez trying to control but Lu postures up.
Nandez is trying to stand up here but Lu is controlling him well.
Nandez wants to control but Lu is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Ground and pound from Lu.

The fighters are battling for position here. Nandez manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Nandez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lu defends well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Nandez trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Nandez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Nandez pulls Lu in close to prevent any damage.
Nandez can't keep his opponent in guard - Lu advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Nandez tries to get to full guard but Lu has control of the leg.

Lu wants to get back to his feet.

Lu shoots in looking for a takedown. Nandez tries to sprawl out of it but Lu keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nandez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Chongyang Lu showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Nandez throws the kick towards the body but Lu avoids it.
Lu tries a head kick but it misses.
Nandez went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Nandez tries to clinch but Lu moves out of range.
Lu wants to clinch up but Nandez keeps it at a distance.
Nandez appears to be looking for a big counter.
Chongyang Lu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Lu has closed the distance and engaged Nandez in a clinch.
Nandez jumps guard but Lu turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Lu pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Nandez is defended easily by Lu.
Lu has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Nandez closes the distance and clinches up with Lu, looking for a takedown. Nandez pushes Lu against the cage but Lu circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Lu tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Nandez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Nandez tries to clinch but Lu is having none of it.

Lu rushes Nandez and presses him up against the cage.
Lu tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Nandez just stands there and leans against the cage.
Nandez is trying to break the clinch but Lu is controlling him.
Lu will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Nandez up against the cage.
Lu lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Lu escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Nandez tries to clinch but Lu is having none of it.

Lu shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Nandez gets back to full guard.
Nandez controls Lu momentarily but Lu frees himself.
Lu trying to control the position from guard on top but Nandez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Nandez is trying to keep Lu in close.

Nandez wants to stand up but Lu is controlling him.
Nandez trying to keep a closed guard but Lu is proving a slippery customer.
Lu is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Nandez stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Nandez wants it to stay on the feet.
Chongyang Lu seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Lu shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Nandez is trying to stand up here but Lu is controlling him well.

Chongyang Lu has got the better of the ground game so far.
Nandez has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lu is working away from the top position though.

Chongyang Lu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lu has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
