PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kylar Sensei (ranked 765 p4p, 90 weight class) and Mike Charles (ranked 2492 p4p, 233 weight class). Charles is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Renegades Of Funk/ Rage Against The Machine. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kylar Sensei!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Charles!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Russell Pearce and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Charles looks for a takedown but Sensei sprawls well.
Charles has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Charles swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Sensei swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Charles wants to clinch up but Sensei keeps it at a distance.
Charles lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
A big left from Sensei misses.
Charles throws a jab but it's blocked by Sensei.
Sensei fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Charles manages to avoid it.
Charles wants to counter with a clinch but Sensei pushes him away.
Sensei misses with a body shot.
Sensei just misses with a punch to the body.
Charles gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Charles throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sensei went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Charles throws an overhand right that lands on Sensei's shoulder, as Sensei tries to avoid the shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sensei misses with a straight right.
Sensei swings for the body but Charles moves out of range.
Charles stuns Sensei with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Sensei, as that shot connected.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Charles tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sensei paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sensei is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Sensei misses the shot to the body.
Charles tries to counter with a clinch but Sensei shakes him off and moves away.

Some wild striking there from Sensei.
Sensei uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Charles.

Charles fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Sensei, pushing him back against the cage.
Charles swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Charles cracks Sensei with a nice body shot.
Sensei misses with a body punch.
Charles is trying to pull guard but Sensei has him pressed against the cage.
Sensei doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Sensei blocking some punches.
Sensei blocks a body shot from Charles.
A shot in the inside from Sensei.
Sensei blocks an uppercut.
Sensei tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Charles blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Charles lands a hook to the side of the head.
A head punch on the inside from Sensei fails to land.
Sensei misses with a short punch on the inside.
Sensei has a couple of punches blocked by Charles.
Sensei misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Sensei lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Charles backwards.

Charles throws a punch but it's blocked by Sensei.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Charles lands with a light punch inside.
Charles prevents a body shot from Sensei.
Sensei presses Charles against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Charles lands a left hand.
Charles misses with a punch to the body.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Charles creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Sensei pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A slow jab from Charles misses its intended target.
Sensei throws a body punch but Charles moves out of range.
Charles throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Charles slips under a jab.
Charles wants to counter the offense by Sensei and move into the clinch position.
Sensei lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Sensei throws a body punch but Charles moves out of range.
Sensei connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
A big left from Charles misses.
Sensei throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Sensei connects with a right hand. Charles shakes it off.
Sensei scores with a body shot.

Sensei misses with an uppercut.
Charles uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Sensei.
Kylar Sensei is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Charles throws a series of punches but Sensei avoids them all with ease.
Sensei swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Sensei fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Sensei swats away the attempt to clinch by Charles.
Sensei scores with a nice right hand.
Sensei fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Charles fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sensei manages to avoid it.
Charles misses the shot to the body.
A lazy left from Sensei finds it's target.
Sensei fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Charles looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Charles swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
A decent looking cross lands there for Charles.

Sensei loads up on a big right hand but Charles slips the punch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Charles steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Sensei.
Sensei fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Charles manages to avoid it.
Sensei misses with a wild body shot.
Sensei takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Sensei misses with a few strikes there.
Sensei looks to score with a jab to the body but Charles is just out of range.
Charles slips under a jab.
Sensei lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Charles circles away quickly and effectively.
Charles lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Sensei throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Charles just misses with a punch to the body.
The fighters circling - Sensei throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Charles throws a jab but it's blocked by Sensei.
Sensei throws out a powerful jab.
Sensei cracks Charles with an open hand slap.
Charles lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kylar Sensei dominated that round.
That's time! Sensei's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Charles takes the fight into the clinch.
Sensei struggles to land a body shot inside as Charles controls his hands.
Sensei throws a punch but it's blocked by Charles.
Charles scores with a nice hook to the head.
A short body shot lands from Charles as the two fighters clinch.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Charles.

Sensei manages to break the clinch.

Charles closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sensei did well to prevent Charles getting side control.
Sensei wants to improve his position but Charles is controlling well.
Sensei wants to control but Charles is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Charles seems to be looking for submissions.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Sensei is looking for a sweep. Charles is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Sensei trying to hold on to Charles's head to control him but Charles postures up.
Charles prevents Sensei from improving his position.

Charles is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sensei is just riding it out for now. Charles eventually gives up the hold.
Charles wants to take a breather but Sensei is having none of it.
Charles throwing shots but Sensei is blocking nicely.
Sensei wants to get back to full guard.

Charles is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sensei sees it coming and defends easily.

Charles is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Sensei doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Charles.
Sensei makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sensei.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sensei controls Charles momentarily but Charles frees himself.

Sensei looking for a guillotine here but Charles defends easily.
Charles wants to control from the top but Sensei keeps moving.
Charles scoring with punches to the head and body.
Charles advances position into side control!
Sensei is looking for a sweep.

Charles is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sensei knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Charles tries for a kimura but Sensei is defending well.

Sensei regains half guard.
Sensei trying to control from the bottom.
Charles not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Charles is trying to control the action in half guard but Sensei is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Charles is looking for a kimura here.
Sensei wants to control but Charles is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Sensei tries to get to full guard but Charles has control of the leg.
Charles tries to pass to full mount but Sensei defends it.
Sensei is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Valhalla MMA, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Charles seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Sensei is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
