Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pekka Pera (ranked 30 p4p, 5 weight class) and Thomas Hawk (ranked 100 p4p, 18 weight class). Hawk comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Deadwood kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pekka Pera!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 35 - 17 - 1, fighting out of London, Thomas Hawk!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Dillan Fox and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pera avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Pera looks to score with a jab to the body but Hawk is just out of range.
Pera throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Hawk misses with a low kick.
Pera throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Hawk stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Hawk looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Hawk avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Pera's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Hawk connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Pera scrambles back to his feet.


It looks like Pekka Pera has been cut.

Hawk throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Pera tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Hawk is in Pera's guard.
Hawk tries to free his leg and advance position but Pera is retaining full guard.

Hawk working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pera doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pera manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That kick from Pera tenderised Hawk's leg. Hawk is trying to keep his angry face on.

and Pera counters with a nice low kick that buckles Hawk's knee momentarily.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Hawk crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Pera - the referee stops the clock and Hawk gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Pera. Hawk manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Hawk swings wildly with an uppercut but Pera uses good head movement to avoid it.

Pera has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Pera closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Hawk did well to prevent Pera getting side control.
Pera working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Pera is taking a breather. Hawk says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The fighters circle momentarily. Pera darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

After winning the bout, Pekka Pera thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
