Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Demetrius Valdez (ranked 7478 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Cart (ranked 5735 p4p, 0 weight class). John Cart has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Demetrius Valdez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Cart!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cart clinches up with Valdez and pushes him back against the cage.
Cart keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Valdez's efforts to push away.
Valdez wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Valdez really is a fat lump.
Cart is trying to break the clinch but Valdez has him pressed against the cage.
Cart avoids a wild elbow strike from Valdez.

Cart is trying to trip Valdez. He has hold of a leg but Valdez is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Cart persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Cart decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Valdez, up you get!
Valdez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cart as he avoids it easily.

Cart rushes Valdez and presses him up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Valdez prevents Cart from breaking the clinch.

Cart is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Valdez can't fight it off and eventually Cart manages to take the fight to the floor. Valdez looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Valdez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Valdez looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Cart has picked Valdez up and slammed him! Valdez can't keep hold of the triangle and Cart manages to pass to side control!

Cart is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Valdez knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Valdez is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Cart takes advantage of some sloppy striking from Valdez to pass into mount.
Valdez sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Valdez wants to improve his position but Cart is controlling well.

Cart get's back to his feet.

Cart looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Valdez!
Valdez is not content to let Cart control the position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Valdez tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

Cart takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Cart throws some wild stikes that Valdez manages to avoid easily.
Valdez is trying to escape the mount.
Cart tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Cart prevents Valdez from getting the reversal.
Cart takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Cart punching from mount but Valdez doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Cart controlling the pace for now.
Cart in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Let's hope that Cart has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Cart throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Valdez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Cart wants to control from the top but Valdez keeps moving.

Cart has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Cart sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Cart seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Cart's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Valdez manages to get to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Cart engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Valdez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cart's guard.

Valdez looking to sit in guard and control but Cart gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Cart gets to his feet. Valdez looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Cart misses with a kick to the body.
It looked like Valdez wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Valdez tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cart swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Cart drives through with a takedown into guard.

Valdez is looking for a triangle here but Cart uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cart throws an elbow but Valdez slips to the side and avoids it well.
Valdez wants to get back to his feet.

Cart decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Valdez shoots in for a takedown but Cart shows good takedown defense.
Valdez shoots in but Cart avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Valdez shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Demetrius Valdez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Valdez gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Cart to score an easy takedown into full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Cart stands and steps away. Valdez gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Cart feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Cart throws a big right hand that misses.
Cart not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Valdez working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Cart.

Valdez isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Cart stacks Valdez on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Cart!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cart stands up and beckons Valdez to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Cart showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Cart in particular looking to stall.
Cart has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Cart has control of Valdez's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Valdez regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Cart tries to control but Valdez wriggling away.

Cart is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Valdez to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Valdez shrugs it off.

Cart is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Valdez has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Cart is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Valdez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cart thows a huge punch but Valdez dodges it nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Cart comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Cart has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
