The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Pigeon with that takedown attempt.
Azevedo wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Pigeon rushes Azevedo and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
Azevedo blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
We've been informed that Pigeon has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Azevedo fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Azevedo is fighting off a takedown attempt but Pigeon is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Azevedo to the mat. Azevedo regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Pigeon postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pigeon content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Azevedo has locked up a guillotine! Azevedo's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Pigeon is holding on here and Azevedo must be using up a lot of energy. Pigeon has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Azevedo gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
