PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James Penn (ranked 3944 p4p, 0 weight class) and Borys Mankowski (ranked 5144 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Penn might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Everything in its right place. Mankowski comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Kękę -Wyjebane kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Borys Mankowski has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 13 - 2, fighting out of Hilo, James Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Borys Mankowski!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Albert Achterberg and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mankowski manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Mankowski has his foot on Penn's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Penn works his way back into a safe position though.

Mankowski throws his legs up looking for a submission but Penn uses it to pass to side control.
Mankowski wants to control but Penn postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Penn stands up and beckons Mankowski to his feet.
Penn misses with a looping right.
Mankowski feints the counter takedown.
Penn misses the jab.
Mankowski throws out a counter right but Penn avoids it with no problem.
Penn lands a nice leg kick that just misses Mankowski's sensitive parts.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mankowski drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Penn defends it well.

Mankowski chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Penn can pounce on him.
Penn misses with an uppercut. Mankowski saw that one coming.
Mankowski changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Penn tries to avoid it but Mankowski manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Penn to the ground. Penn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Penn drops down looking for a counter takedown but Mankowski sprawls and moves away.

Penn pivots, looking for a leg kick but Mankowski is out of range and Penn settles back down.
Mankowski tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Penn throws a jab but it's blocked by Mankowski.
Mankowski wants to counter the offense by Penn and move into the clinch position.

Penn shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Penn showed some decent athleticism there.

Penn seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Mankowski wants to get back to full guard.

Penn stands up and beckons Mankowski to join him on the feet.
Mankowski takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Penn throws an off balance right hand

and Mankowski decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Penn's guard.

Penn scrambles and gets back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Penn throws a leg kick which misses Mankowski's front leg but catches the back leg as Mankowski tries to avoid it.

Penn's jab looks to have found its range, popping Mankowski under the eye.
Mankowski stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Penn.
James Penn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Penn scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Penn throws a low kick but Mankowski moves out of range easily.
Mankowski on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Mankowski takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Penn fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Mankowski.

Penn jabs Mankowski right on the nose. Mankowski blinks but takes it well.
Penn throws a hook but Mankowski avoids it easily.
A nice side step and Mankowski releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mankowski tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Penn defends well and Mankowski ends up having to push Penn into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

It seemed like Mankowski was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Mankowski dives in for a single leg takedown but Penn sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Mankowski stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Penn swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Mankowski drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Penn manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mankowski has Penn in his guard.

Well Penn has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
