PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Dawson (ranked 1880 p4p, 80 weight class) and Bob Snapp (ranked 1842 p4p, 76 weight class). Dawson comes to the cage accompanied by Titanic theme. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jack Dawson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bob Snapp!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Snapp works over Dawson's head and body with a nice combination.


It looks like Jack Dawson has been cut.
Snapp throws a series of punches but Dawson moves out of range.
Dawson scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.


It looks like Bob Snapp has been cut.
Dawson tries to clinch up but Snapp circles away and keeps his distance.
Snapp cracks Dawson with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Jack Dawson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Dawson drives through and clinches with Snapp against the cage.
Dawson looking to throw knees to the head but Snapp is blocking nicely.
Dawson has Snapp pressed against the cage.
Dawson lands a shoulder strike.
Snapp on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Dawson lands an elbow inside that Snapp shrugs off.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A right handed body shot lands from Dawson.
Dawson doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Snapp manages to break the clinch.
We've been informed that Snapp has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Dawson tries to clinch but Snapp moves out of range.
Despite the aggression on Snapp's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Dawson is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Dawson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Snapp paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Dawson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Snapp manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A shot to the liver by Snapp. Beautiful body shot.
Dawson has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Dawson there as he acknowledges the shot.
Snapp avoids the body shot from Dawson.
Dawson tries to clinch up but Snapp circles away and keeps his distance.

and Dawson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Dawson.

Snapp pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Snapp swats away the attempt to clinch by Dawson.

and Snapp counters with a series of strikes that sends Dawson to the canvas! Snapp follows down into guard, looking to finish the fight!


Dawson is rocked!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Dawson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Snapp defends it easily.
Snapp stays in close to Dawson's body and controls the position.

Dawson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Snapp doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Snapp manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Snapp is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Snapp has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Dawson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Dawson has his foot on Snapp's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Snapp works his way back into a safe position though.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Dawson is trying to control the position but Snapp postures up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Snapp misses with an uppercut. Dawson saw that one coming.
Snapp throws out a powerful jab.
Snapp moves into range and connects with a jab.
Snapp missing with a left hand there. Dawson was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Dawson swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Dawson wants to clinch up but Snapp keeps it at a distance.
Snapp is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Dawson is looking to clinch but Snapp is avoiding it.
Snapp misses with a two punch combination.
Dawson tries to clinch but Snapp is having none of it.
Snapp lands a nice shot to the body.
Snapp connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Snapp's jab looks to have found its range, popping Dawson under the eye.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Snapp dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Snapp works the jab nicely.
Dawson throws out a loose jab but Snapp uses good head movement to avoid it.
Snapp looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Snapp bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops Dawson! He dives into his guard looking to finish!
Oh Dawson is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Snapp slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Dawson seems to have got his legs back now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Snapp trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Dawson working for a triangle but Snapp defends it easily.
Snapp is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Snapp has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Dawson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Snapp gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Dawson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Snapp can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Snapp controlling from the top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Dawson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Snapp connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Bob Snapp seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Dawson takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Snapp swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Dawson appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
and Snapp counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts Dawson! He's just covering up as Snapp starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:08 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bob Snapp!
Jumping up and down and very excited, Bob Snapp waved his t-shirt featuring Freebok (85% Laundry)'s logo in front of the cameras.
