This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 7 wins and 8 losses; Brian Burns! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 19 wins and 14 losses; Greco Roman!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and Alan Glass.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Roman closes the distance and clinches up with Burns, looking for a takedown. Roman pushes Burns against the cage but Burns circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Burns has closed the distance and engaged Roman in a clinch.

Burns is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Roman can't fight it off and eventually Burns manages to take the fight to the floor. Roman looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Roman is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Burns has gone for a leg lock! Roman slips out almost immediately though and dives into Burns's guard.

Burns looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Roman passes into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Roman prevents Burns from improving his position.

Burns looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Roman is controlling the pace.
Burns has a hand on Roman's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Roman takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Roman trying to control but Burns is having none of it.
We've been hearing good reports from Burns's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Burns keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Roman looking to control but Burns is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Burns is wriggling around trying to escape.
Roman is looking to work his way around to Burns's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
Roman controlling the position easily from mount.
My spies in HELLCADEMY (Ground Training) inform me that Roman has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Roman has control of Burns's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Burns regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Burns keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Roman is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Burns has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Burns!

Burns drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Roman manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Burns has Roman in his guard.

Burns isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Roman stacks Burns on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Roman!

Burns is looking for a sweep.

Burns wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Roman has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Burns's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Burns is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Roman!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Greco Roman!
Greco Roman bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
Brian Burns spoke after the fight, saying 'Hats off to my opponent. He was better tonight. I hope we meet again in the future.'.
