Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Amaru Maita (ranked 5723 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jerrod McFarland (ranked 5623 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Amaru Maita!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jerrod McFarland!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, John Mangel and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Maita shoots in and gets a takedown into McFarland's guard.
McFarland is controlling Maita's posture.
Maita knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McFarland on the ground.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now McFarland is on top in guard.


McFarland stands up from Maita's guard - McFarland perhaps looking for a knockout.
McFarland fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Maita is looking for a counter combo.
Maita throws a series of punches but McFarland avoids them all with ease.
Amaru Maita seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maita pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces McFarland back to the cage. Maita follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Maita's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Maita duly obliges.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Maita moves in looking to clinch but McFarland pushes him off.
McFarland is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Maita.

McFarland closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Maita misses with a few strikes there.
Maita avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
A left and a right from Maita both land. Nice combination.
Maita misses with a double jab.
McFarland swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Maita lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

McFarland closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

McFarland has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Maita is working the combinations to good effect here.

McFarland changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Maita tries to avoid it but McFarland manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Maita to the ground. Maita escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Amaru Maita has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jerrod McFarland.
McFarland throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Maita wants to control but McFarland is having none of it.

McFarland shoots in for a double leg but Maita sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

McFarland closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Maita to the mat! Maita manages to get full guard.

Maita is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that McFarland can do to turn this around?

McFarland tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no McFarland has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
McFarland wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maita keeps working.

Maita pushes McFarland off and scrambles back to his feet.

McFarland pulls Maita in close to prevent any damage.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Maita here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now McFarland is on top in guard.

McFarland tries to free his leg and advance position but Maita is retaining full guard.

A close second round but Jerrod McFarland will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Maita fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with McFarland, pushing him back against the cage.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

McFarland is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Maita is defending well though. McFarland let's go of the attempt for now.

McFarland has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Maita has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Jerrod McFarland comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think McFarland has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
