PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lino Gregorio (ranked 2879 p4p, 307 weight class) and Ritchie Souza (ranked 4232 p4p, 414 weight class). Souza has chosen Gwen Stefani-Luxurious as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Lino Gregorio has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Lino Gregorio seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lino Gregorio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ritchie Souza!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Steve Montenegro and Franklyn Lucas.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Souza throws a nice looking combination but Gregorio bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Gregorio tries to clinch up but Souza circles away and keeps his distance.
A right-left combo lands from Souza.
Souza misses with a jab, cross combination.
Souza leaves Gregorio with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
A left lands for Souza.
A punch lands to the side of Gregorio 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Souza throws a right and a left that both miss.
Gregorio is looking for a counter combo.

Gregorio drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gregorio content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Gregorio won't allow Souza to sweep him here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gregorio accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Souza had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gregorio defends it easily.

Souza has his foot on Gregorio's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gregorio works his way back into a safe position though.

Gregorio lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Souza working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gregorio doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gregorio manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Souza is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Souza will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Gregorio is really struggling to control Souza but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Gregorio stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Souza has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Gregorio manages to get his head free but now Souza has transitioned to an armbar! Gregorio grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Souza! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
