Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aron Ward (ranked 7751 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Brennan (ranked 5632 p4p, 436 weight class). Dave Brennan has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Aron Ward!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dave Brennan!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Lou da Vinci and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brennan gets the takedown into side control.

Ward sneaks out the side door and pushes Brennan away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Brennan closes the distance and clinches up with Ward, looking for a takedown. Brennan pushes Ward against the cage but Ward circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Brennan misses with a left hand
and Ward counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
A head kick misses from Ward.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Brennan shoots in and drives through. Ward sprawls well.
Ward went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Ward.
Ward tries a head kick but it misses.
Ward ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Ward pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Brennan shoots in but Ward avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Aron Ward has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dave Brennan.

Ward closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ward lands in his opponent's guard.

Brennan manages to escape and get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ward lands a head kick. Brennan smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Ward moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Ward lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Brennan circles away quickly and effectively.
Brennan takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Ward closes the distance and clinches.

Ward decides to pull guard.
Brennan controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Ward seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ward is trying to control the position but Brennan postures up.
Brennan seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Ward scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Brennan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ward, pushing him back against the cage.

Ward has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Brennan regains guard immediately.

Brennan pushes Ward off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Ward is breathing heavily.
Nice sprawl there from Ward as Brennan shoots in.
Brennan tries to bum rush Ward with a series of wild strikes but Ward uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
A thudding body kick lands there by Ward!
Ward scores with a push kick.
Brennan will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Ward misses with a head kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ward goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Brennan doesn't succeed with the takedown
enabling Ward to counter with a crisp jab.
Ward displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Brennan.
Brennan tries to clinch but Ward moves out of range.

Ward manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Brennan on his heels. He'll look to pass Brennan's guard now, I'm sure.

Brennan is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Ward presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Ward works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Brennan has his feet on Ward's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Aron Ward dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Ward throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Brennan tries for a takedown but Ward sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Brennan rushes Ward and presses him up against the cage.
Brennan has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Ward after a bit of a struggle.

Brennan gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ward not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ward has momentary wrist control but Brennan slips an elbow through the middle.

Ward utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Ward manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Brennan on his heels. He'll look to pass Brennan's guard now, I'm sure.

Brennan has a closed guard, preventing Ward from standing up.

Ward avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Ward working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Ward is fighting to break Brennan's control of his arms but Brennan is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Ward with a flurry of punches that miss.
Brennan has control of Ward's left arm, preventing Ward from doing any damage.

Brennan manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ward manages to get himself to full guard.

Dave Brennan has got the better of the ground game so far.
Brennan's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Brennan wants to control from the top but Ward keeps moving.
Brennan loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Ward looking for a sweep. Not yet Ward, not yet.
Brennan is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Brennan looking to sit in guard and control but Ward gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Ward postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Brennan is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ward, into his guard.

Ward is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brennan postures up.
Ward looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Brennan is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dave Brennan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Ward avoids the head kick by Brennan.

Brennan feints and as Ward raises his hands in defense, Brennan changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Brennan trying to control the position from guard on top but Ward is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Brennan stays in close to Ward's body and controls the position.
Brennan throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ward works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Ward manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Brennan keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Ward tries to break free but Brennan pushes him back against the cage.

Brennan has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Ward is trying to keep an underhook but Brennan manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Ward wants to control but Brennan is keeping busy.

Brennan is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Ward doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Brennan.

Ward actively working from the bottom here.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ward is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brennan is thwarting Ward's attempts to control the position.

Brennan is working for a kimura but Ward is defending it quite comfortably.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ward trying to hold on to Brennan's head to control him but Brennan postures up.
Ward is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Brennan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Ward has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Brennan is working away from the top position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Brennan perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Brennan wants to free his trapped foot but Ward is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Brennan in particular looking to stall.
Ward gets back to full guard.
Ward keeping moving, preventing Brennan from controlling successfully.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ward controls Brennan momentarily but Brennan frees himself.
Brennan wants to control from the top but Ward keeps moving.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dave Brennan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Brennan has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
