PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Maeda (ranked 2481 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jah Wobble (ranked 655 p4p, 0 weight class). Wobble has chosen Passage to Hades as his entrance music. Both these fighters are unbeaten, so somebody's 0 has got to go!Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Thomas Maeda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jah Wobble!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Bart Greer and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wobble feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Wobble with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Wobble controlling from the top position.
Wobble is working Maeda over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Maeda manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Wobble manages to get himself to full guard.

Wobble looking to hit a scissor sweep but Maeda is one step ahead there.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Maeda drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Wobble dives on top into guard.

My spies in Cozad The Island inform me that Wobble has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Maeda can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Wobble controls the pace.

Maeda is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Maeda has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

It looks like Wobble might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Let's hope that Wobble has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Wobble seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Maeda does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Maeda fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Wobble sprawls well initially but Maeda persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Maeda escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wobble gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Wobble is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Maeda sneaks back into half guard.
Maeda manages to get to full guard.
Wobble scoring with some ground and pound.
Jah Wobble has got the better of the ground game so far.
Maeda wants to sweep but no luck.
Wobble's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Wobble is continuing to stall.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Wobble's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Maeda is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Wobble connects with a couple of short punches.
Wobble controlling from the top position.

Wobble got a little sloppy there for a moment and Maeda has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wobble has managed to get both his arms back between Maeda's legs - danger averted.
Wobble pushes down on Maeda's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Wobble slips a nice elbow through Maeda's hands, connecting with Maeda's forehead.

After winning the bout, Jah Wobble thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
