The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goncalves connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Hayes's hands.
Hayes ducks under a wild hook from Goncalves.
Hayes tries to counter with a takedown but Goncalves is quick to defend against it.
Goncalves throws a right hand that Hayes ducks under and follows up with a left that Hayes also avoids with ease.
Hayes tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Goncalves manages to circle out of the way.

Goncalves is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hayes wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

That was a close round but I would say that Darryl Hayes will probably get the nod.

Hayes seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Goncalves for as long as he can get away with.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Darryl Hayes overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hayes has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
