TWGC 22 (170lbs, D3): Montreal Qualifier - Round 2 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a welterweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Miguel Machin (ranked 19289 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maatia Supuaga (ranked 3595 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Machin might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Pandora's Music Box. Supuaga has chosen Wanna Taki Taki as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 1 losses; Miguel Machin! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 0 losses; Maatia Supuaga!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Alec Ball and Gregory Folan.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Supuaga closes the distance and clinches.
Supuaga is pressed up against the cage. Machin has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Supuaga down to the mat. Supuaga avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

and Supuaga counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Machin drops down looking for an ankle pick but Supuaga pulls his leg out and moves away.

Supuaga has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Machin regains guard immediately.

Supuaga stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Machin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Machin holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Machin is trying to maintain the position but Supuaga is very close to passing his half guard.

Supuaga is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Machin as he works his way to full guard.

Machin wants to control but Supuaga is having none of it.
Supuaga tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Machin tries to lock up and control but Supuaga gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Supuaga looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Supuaga tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Supuaga has control of Machin's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Machin regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Let's hope that Supuaga has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Supuaga wants to take Machin's back here but Machin is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Supuaga moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Machin has worked his arm free - good work by Machin!

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Supuaga.
Machin just trying to survive but Supuaga is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Supuaga is riding his opponent, not letting Machin buck him off.

Supuaga is persistently looking for the submission but Machin is defending it well.

Supuaga has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Machin has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
