Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Irving Carney (ranked 8309 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chase Brito (ranked 5737 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Irving Carney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chase Brito!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carney fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Brito sprawls well initially but Carney persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Brito avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Carney.
Carney takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Carney really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Brito keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carney looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Brito wants to improve his position but Carney is controlling well.

Brito wants to control but Carney is keeping busy.
Carney is nestled in close to Brito, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Carney blocks the strikes from Brito.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Carney closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Brito quickly recovers to half guard.

Brito is defending against the submission attempts here by Carney.
Brito wants to improve his position but Carney is controlling well.
Brito is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Brito has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Carney is working away from the top position though.

Carney working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Carney knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Brito on the ground.
Brito is trying to maintain the position but Carney is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carney content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Carney looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Brito with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Brito fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Carney to the ground. Brito is now in Carney's guard.
Brito wants to control from the top but Carney keeps moving.
Carney pulls Brito in close to his closed guard and prevents Brito from doing any damage or advancing position.
Brito throwing strikes from guard but Carney blocks nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Brito shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Carney defends it nicely.
Brito shoots for a double leg takedown but Carney sprawls well. He's pushed Brito's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Carney drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Brito scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Brito goes for a double leg but Carney avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Carney continues to drive forward.
Carney wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

and Carney decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Brito's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Carney is working Brito over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Carney drops back looking for a leg! Brito is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Brito manages to kick Carney off! Carney jumps back into Brito's guard.
Carney lands a couple of elbows.
Carney works over Brito with some ground and pound from guard.
Carney will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Brito is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Brito fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Brito tries to clinch but Carney moves out of range.
As Brito tries to get set, Carney tries to push him back and clinch up but Brito manages to avoid the attempt.
A looping hook to the body misses from Carney. Brito does a little dance to reset his feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Brito is defended easily by Carney.
Carney tries to counter with a takedown but Brito is quick to defend against it.

Carney decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Brito has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Carney is on him like a limpet, forcing Brito back against the cage.

Brito takes a knee right on the jaw!

Carney manages to pull guard.
Carney pulls Brito in close to his closed guard and prevents Brito from doing any damage or advancing position.
Carney keeping moving, preventing Brito from controlling successfully.
Carney has momentary wrist control but Brito slips an elbow through the middle.

Carney is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Brito trying to stand up but can't free himself from Carney's guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Brito shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Carney counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Brito!

Brito shoots in but Carney avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Carney slaps away a takedown attempt from Brito, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Carney has closed the distance and engaged Brito in a clinch.
Brito misses with a punch on the inside.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carney is trying to trip Brito. He has hold of a leg but Brito is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Carney persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Carney postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Carney is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Carney is in close to Brito's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Brito wants to stand and escape but Carney is having none of it.

Brito has his foot on Carney's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Carney works his way back into a safe position though.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Carney has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Brito is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Brito takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Brito prevents a takedown attempt there.
Carney goes for a takedown in the clinch but Brito prevents it.
Brito wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Brito fails to pull guard.
Irving Carney has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chase Brito.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Carney takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Carney has Brito pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Carney pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Brito tumbling to the mat - Carney dives into Brito's guard.
Carney distracts Brito with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Carney is working Brito over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Brito is on top in guard.

Brito is fighting to break Carney's control of his arms but Carney is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
