Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Medusa Grip (ranked 582 p4p, 80 weight class) and Alex Sunchez (ranked 2654 p4p, 290 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Medusa Grip!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alex Sunchez!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Bart Greer and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sunchez ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Sunchez keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Grip.

Sunchez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Grip looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Grip gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Grip controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

Grip is defending against the submission attempts here by Sunchez.
Sunchez trying to control the action but Grip is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Grip has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Grip utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Grip throws an elbow that misses. Sunchez uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Grip's guard. Nice move by Sunchez!

Sunchez postures up in Grip's guard and throws a big left but Grip blocks it.
Grip is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sunchez tries to roll over but Grip keeps him under control.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Grip fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sunchez manages to avoid it.

Grip shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sunchez's guard.
Sunchez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Grip wants to control from the top but Sunchez keeps moving.
Sunchez has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Grip misses with a takedown attempt - Sunchez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Grip goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Grip manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sunchez manages to get himself to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sunchez is wriggling around trying to escape.
Grip throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Grip swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Sunchez is now in Grip's guard. A big mistake from Grip there, giving up the dominant position!

That was a close second round but I would say that Medusa Grip will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Sunchez throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Grip tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Sunchez is in Grip's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Grip is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Grip wants to control but Sunchez is keeping him busy.
Grip not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Grip fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sunchez drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Grip defends it well.

Sunchez gets tackled into the cage by Grip. Grip maintains the clinch.
Grip looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Grip is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Grip breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Grip shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Sunchez is staying active underneath Grip, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Grip passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Sunchez!

Grip has control of Sunchez's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Sunchez regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Sunchez flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sunchez can't escape the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Medusa Grip showed his dominance in that final round.
