Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Alvin Cline (ranked 23657 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Lodge (ranked 5653 p4p, 0 weight class). Scott Lodge has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Alvin Cline!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Scott Lodge!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Matti Vanhoillinen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cline gets caught napping as Lodge dives in and scores a takedown. Cline manages to retain guard.
Cline keeping full guard, as Lodge tries to pass.
Cline is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lodge wants to control from the top but Cline keeps moving.
Lodge stays in close to Cline's body and controls the position.

Cline has his foot on Lodge's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lodge works his way back into a safe position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lodge tries to free his leg and advance position but Cline is retaining full guard.
Lodge's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Cline has a closed guard, preventing Lodge from standing up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Lodge decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Cline could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Cline is refusing to be controlled, as Lodge sits in half guard.
Cline tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Lodge missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Lodge in particular looking to stall.
Cline is trying to control but can't.

Lodge stalling away here and it's allowed Cline to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Lodge postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Lodge is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Lodge throws a big elbow that misses.
Lodge throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cline works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Lodge stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Lodge drives through with a takedown into guard.
Lodge throws a strike but Cline rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Lodge has his hands on Cline's head, controlling the position.
Cline has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Lodge is proving hard to escape from.
Cline is looking to work some ground and pound but Lodge has wrist control.

Cline stands and steps away. Lodge gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Lodge stuffs the takedown.

Cline dives in and scores a takedown into Lodge's guard.
Lodge lands with a heel strike from the guard.

Cline stands up and waves to Lodge to follow him.

Lodge closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Lodge wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cline, who protects the arm well.
Lodge looks winded!

Lodge thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Lodge moves into the clinch.

Cline pulls Lodge into guard.
Lodge postures up in Cline's guard and throws a big left but Cline blocks it.
Cline might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Lodge is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Cline keeping moving, preventing Lodge from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lodge wanted to stand there but Cline had control of the position.
Lodge won't allow Cline to sweep him here.

Lodge is fighting to break Cline's control of his arms but Cline is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Cline has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Lodge misses with a body shot.

Lodge moves into the clinch successfully.
Cline is looking to take this one to the mat.
Cline scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Lodge works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Lodge passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Lodge tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Cline striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lodge stands up.
Cline blocks a head kick by Lodge.

Lodge darts in and clinches Cline up against the cage.
Lodge is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Cline decides to pull guard.
Cline looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lodge is one step ahead there.
Cline keeping moving, preventing Lodge from controlling successfully.
Lodge throws an elbow that misses. Cline uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Lodge's guard. Nice move by Cline!

Cline decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Lodge closes the distance and pushes Cline back into the cage.
Lodge wants to stall.

Cline drags the fight down to the ground.
Cline can't keep his opponent in guard - Lodge advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Cline slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Cline avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scott Lodge showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Cline swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Lodge counters with a three punch combo that has Cline backing up. Cline nods at Lodge to acknowledge the strikes.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cline is defended easily by Lodge.

Lodge with the ground and pound but Cline uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Lodge wants to pass the guard but Cline is keeping the position.
Cline will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Lodge postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lodge accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Lodge scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cline wants to control but Lodge postures up.
Lodge wants to take a breather but Cline manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Lodge.
Lodge has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Lodge slips nicely into half guard.
Cline is not content to let Lodge control the position.
Lodge throws a strike but Cline avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lodge postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Lodge with a flurry of punches that miss.
Lodge wants to stand but Cline is controlling his posture from full guard.

Lodge decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Cline, up you get!

Lodge has managed to clinch.
Lodge lands a knee to the body.
Lodge stops a takedown attempt from Cline.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cline tries to pull guard but Lodge won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alvin Cline. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Cline is trying to pull guard but Lodge has him pressed against the cage.
Lodge controlling the action here for a moment.

Lodge turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Lodge manages to end up in side control.

Scott Lodge comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lodge has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
