The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cardoso fails with a takedown attempt.
Cardoso tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Whitaker defends well and Cardoso ends up having to push Whitaker into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Whitaker is looking to counter the offense by Cardoso and move into the clinch.

Cardoso clinches up against the cage.
Whitaker tries to pull guard but Cardoso forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Whitaker is pressed up against the cage. Cardoso has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Whitaker down to the mat. Whitaker avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Lyle Whitaker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Cardoso.
Whitaker blocks a head kick by Cardoso.
Whitaker seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Whitaker really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Cardoso clinches up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Whitaker pulls guard successfully.
Whitaker is trying to control the position but Cardoso postures up.
Whitaker wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Cardoso is now in half guard.
Cardoso prevents Whitaker from improving his position.

Whitaker is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Cardoso scores with a couple of nice shots.
Whitaker wants to control but Cardoso is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Cardoso slips a nice elbow through Whitaker's hands, connecting with Whitaker's forehead.

Whitaker manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Cardoso keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Cardoso breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A nice inside leg kick there by Cardoso. That's going to slow Whitaker down.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

and Whitaker counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Cardoso shoots in and bounces Whitaker off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Whitaker is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Cardoso makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Whitaker looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Cardoso is defending well. Whitaker quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Cardoso has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Whitaker celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
