Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carey Blevins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gianfranco Perez!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Paulo Santos and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perez tries to clinch up.
A combination from Blevins does no damage.

Blevins has taken the fight to the clinch.
Perez tries to work over Blevins's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Perez tries to break free but Blevins pushes him back against the cage.

Perez turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Perez manages to end up in side control.
Perez postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Perez looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Blevins is avoiding damage well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Blevins manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Blevins wants to get back to his feet.

Blevins has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Perez is on him like a limpet, forcing Blevins back against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Perez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Perez attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
It looked like Blevins was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Blevins darts in and clinches Perez up against the cage.

Blevins pulls guard.
Blevins trying to strike off his back.
Perez postures up in Blevins's guard and throws a big left but Blevins blocks it.

Blevins pushes Perez off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Some wild striking there from Blevins.

Perez dives in and scores a takedown into Blevins's guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Blevins misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
As Blevins backs off Perez throws a huge counter combo but Blevins manages to avoid it all.

Perez darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Perez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Blevins's head.
Perez scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Blevins tries to kick Perez off but Perez keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Perez lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Perez wants to work for an arm triangle but Blevins is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Perez wants to take a breather but Blevins is having none of it.
Perez looks winded!

Perez stands up out of the half guard.

Blevins forces Perez back against the cage and clinches.

Perez breaks from the clinch.
Blevins throws a body kick that misses.

And Perez tries to counter it with a takedown but Blevins pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Blevins chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Perez can pounce on him.
Perez tries to land a front kick but Blevins steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Perez fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Blevins to the ground. Perez is now in Blevins's guard.

Blevins uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Blevins could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Blevins moves into the clinch.
Perez struggles to land a body shot inside as Blevins controls his hands.

Blevins breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Carey Blevins will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Perez fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Blevins to the ground. Perez is now in Blevins's guard.
Perez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Perez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Blevins swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Blevins throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Blevins is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Perez is aware though and is defending well.

Perez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Blevins swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Blevins manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Perez turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Blevins parries the strikes from Perez easily there. Perez is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Blevins to escape.

Perez has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Blevins is proving hard to escape from.
Perez is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Carey Blevins.
