The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sonnen ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Good exchange - Kassim coming out on top.
Kassim throws an overhand right that lands on Sonnen's shoulder, as Sonnen tries to avoid the shot.
Sonnen keeps the fight on the outside.
Sonnen shoots in and drives through. Kassim sprawls well.
Kassim tests Sonnen's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Kassim misses with an uppercut. Sonnen saw that one coming.

Kassim closes the distance and clinches.
Kassim fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Kassim tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kassim lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Sonnen backwards.

Kassim tries to land knees in the clinch but Sonnen avoids the damage to the body.
Kassim looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Sonnen blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Kassim creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Kassim tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Kassim lands a good knee to the midsection. Sonnen won't want to take too many of those.
Sonnen has Kassim pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Kassim manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Sonnen is trying to trip Kassim. He has hold of a leg but Kassim is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Sonnen persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Sonnen is working Kassim over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Oh Kassim is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Sonnen gets to his feet and stands over Kassim, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Kassim felt that one! Sonnen unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Kassim from any more punishment!
