Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Fredrick Mays (ranked 8765 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Jefferson (ranked 5765 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Fredrick Mays!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jeff Jefferson!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Donald Grub and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mays closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Jefferson tries to get to full guard but Mays has control of the leg.
Jefferson flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Mays could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Jefferson gets back to full guard.
Jefferson throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Jefferson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mays throws a big right hand that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jefferson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Mays slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Jefferson.

Jefferson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Jefferson controlling the position for now.
Jefferson wants to control but Mays is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Mays is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Jefferson flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Jefferson clinches up with Mays and pushes him back against the cage.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Mays breaks the clinch.

Jefferson moves into the clinch.
Mays effectively controlling the action here.
Jefferson lands an uppercut.
Mays is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Jefferson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Mays pulls his leg out and moves away.
Jefferson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mays tries to avoid it but Jefferson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mays to the ground. Mays escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Fredrick Mays has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeff Jefferson.

Jefferson rushes Mays and presses him up against the cage.
Jefferson looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Mays's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mays tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jefferson swivels and escapes.

Jefferson tries for a takedown but Mays sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mays seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Jefferson instigates a clinch.

Jefferson manages to pull guard.
Mays stopping the sweep attempt from Jefferson.
Mays might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Mays cracks Jefferson with a solid left hand.
Mays prevents Jefferson from getting back to his feet.
Jefferson is striking off his back. Mays thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.

Mays is working for an americana but Jefferson has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Mays was thinking about the submission.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jefferson is looking for a triangle here but Mays uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Fredrick Mays will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Horrible takedown attempt by Mays or perhaps it was just good defense by Jefferson, which made it look bad.
Jefferson misses with a takedown attempt - Mays sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Mays closes the distance and clinches up with Jefferson, looking for a takedown. Mays pushes Jefferson against the cage but Jefferson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Jefferson is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
A right-left combo lands from Jefferson.
Mays changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jefferson tries to avoid it but Mays manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jefferson to the ground. Jefferson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fredrick Mays. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Mays counters with a single leg into guard. Jefferson didn't expect that.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mays manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Mays.
Jefferson is trying to break the clinch but Mays has him pressed against the cage.

Jefferson jumps into guard, dragging Mays to the mat.

Jefferson throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Mays escapes and throws Jefferson's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Mays is putting a hurting on Jefferson here, landing some big shots from side control.

Jefferson wants to control but Mays postures up.
Jefferson is looking to reverse the position.

Mays decides to stand up, so the ref orders Jefferson to his feet.
Jefferson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mays tries to avoid it but Jefferson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mays to the ground. Mays escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jefferson is breathing heavily.
Mays closes the distance and clinches up with Jefferson, looking for a takedown. Mays pushes Jefferson against the cage but Jefferson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Mays fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Mays stuffs the takedown attempt from Jefferson. Jefferson gets slowly back to his feet.
Jefferson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mays.
Jefferson misses with a double jab.
Mays throws a big counter combination but Jefferson scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Mays gets to his feet - Jefferson follows without any prompting.
Jefferson scores with a jab to the body.

Jefferson closes the distance and pushes Mays back into the cage.

Jefferson tries to break the clinch but Mays is controlling the position.
Jefferson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Mays gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Mays prevents a body shot from Jefferson.

Jefferson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jefferson tries to pull guard but Mays forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeff Jefferson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Jefferson moves into the clinch successfully.
Mays is stalling here.

Mays drags the fight down to the ground.
Mays is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Mays is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jefferson is just riding it out for now. Mays eventually gives up the hold.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jefferson is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Mays is staying active.

Mays is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jefferson defends it well.
Jefferson tries to roll over but Mays keeps him under control.
Jefferson wants to control but Mays is keeping busy.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jefferson wants to improve his position but Mays is controlling well.

Jefferson pushes Mays off and gets back to his feet.

Mays shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jefferson as he avoids it easily.

Jefferson clinches up with Mays and pushes him back against the cage.
Jefferson is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Mays is defending well.
Mays tries to pull guard but Jefferson holds him up against the cage and eventually Mays drops back down to his feet.
Mays manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Mays manages to break the clinch.
Jefferson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mays swivels and escapes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Mays.
Jefferson struggling a bit here.
Jefferson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Mays thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Jefferson tries to improve position but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jefferson is still trying to improve position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Fredrick Mays.
I think Mays has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
