PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Slave Master (ranked 5393 p4p, 466 weight class) and Bubba Joe (ranked 5765 p4p, 481 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Slave Master!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bubba Joe!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Master shoots for a double leg takedown but Joe sprawls well. He's pushed Master's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Master fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Joe to the ground. Master is now in Joe's guard.
Master throws a strike but Joe rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Master keeping moving, preventing Joe from controlling successfully.
Master on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Master tries to get out of the position.
Joe loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Master is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Slave Master seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Joe seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Master does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Joe might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Master haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Master wants to control but Joe is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Master is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at White's ELITE Fitness Gym, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Master shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Joe's guard.
Master really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Master shoots in for a takedown but Joe shows good takedown defense.
Master throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Joe's waist but Joe gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Master off to one side.
Master shoots in looking for a takedown but Joe manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Master's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Slave Master. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Master shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Joe as he jumps to the side.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
