Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Katuro Tisoaka (ranked 4237 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drew Sexton (ranked 22172 p4p, 0 weight class). Tisoaka comes to the cage accompanied by Festivo. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Katuro Tisoaka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Drew Sexton!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sexton tries a low kick but Tisoaka avoids it.
Sexton fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Sexton on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Sexton lands a nice hook to Tisoaka's body. Tisoaka takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Drew Sexton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sexton looks to score with a jab to the body but Tisoaka is just out of range.
Sexton dips to his left and cracks Tisoaka with an uppercut!

Tisoaka moves into range and clinches up with Sexton.

Sexton is fighting off a takedown attempt but Tisoaka is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Sexton to the mat. Sexton regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Tisoaka passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Tisoaka gets to mount! Sexton was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Sexton is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Poor strikes thrown by Tisoaka there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sexton is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Sexton tries to improve his position but instead Tisoaka has taken his back!
Tisoaka doesn't have the hooks in and Sexton manages to turn into his guard.
Tisoaka is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Tisoaka seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Sexton is trying to maintain the position but Tisoaka is very close to passing his half guard.

Tisoaka takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Tisoaka has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Sexton is trying to get back to full guard.
Sexton felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Sexton has his hands clasped together around Tisoaka's back. He's all about the action.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Sexton moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Tisoaka connects with a leg kick. Sexton looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Tisoaka is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sexton can do to turn this around?

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sexton looks to move to half guard but instead Tisoaka has passed into mount! Damn!

Sexton is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sexton is trying to reverse the position but instead Tisoaka has taken his back - oops!

Tisoaka is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Sexton defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
I really don't envy Sexton right now.

I really don't envy Sexton right now.

Sexton covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Tisoaka tries to bum rush Sexton with a series of wild strikes but Sexton uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Drew Sexton has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sexton wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Tisoaka is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Katuro Tisoaka is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sexton has his hands on Tisoaka's head, controlling the position.
Tisoaka trying to control the position from guard on top but Sexton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sexton throws a head kick that Tisoaka semi-blocks.
Tisoaka shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sexton as he jumps to the side.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Drew Sexton.
I think Tisoaka has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
