PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Steel (ranked 2032 p4p, 245 weight class) and Dave Brown (ranked 3991 p4p, 409 weight class). Dave Brown struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 186.3lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown throws a leg kick

and Steel counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Steel.
Steel tries to free his leg and advance position but Brown is retaining full guard.
Brown is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Brown lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Brown throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Brown throwing strikes from guard but Steel blocks nicely.
Steel pulls Brown in to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brown missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Steel seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Steel throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Brown escapes and throws Steel's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Steel parries the strikes from Brown easily there. Brown is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Steel to escape.

Brown tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Steel is not content to let Brown control the position.
Brown scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Steel to see if he's OK.
Brown lands a decent elbow from side control.
Steel tries to buck Brown off but Brown is having none of it.
Steel managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Brown.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Brown takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Steel avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Brown.
Brown throwing shots but Steel is blocking nicely.
Steel wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Steel wants to control but Brown is keeping busy.
Brown takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Steel looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Steel has his hands clasped together around Brown's back. He's all about the action.
Steel is looking for a sweep. Brown is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Brown is looking to advance position but Steel won't allow it.
Brown seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Steel does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Brown thows an elbow strike that misses. Steel gets hold of full guard and has managed to get a loose guillotine attempt. Brown doesn't seem too bothered but Steel quickly shifts his position and has tightened the hold! Brown is in big trouble now - he's going a funny colour - he's tapping out! Nice finish there! Brown really should have spotted the danger earlier though... either incompetence or over-confidence has resulted in a big L on his record.

James Steel really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Urban Fighter logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
