Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joe Lugg (ranked 2384 p4p, 257 weight class) and Paul Irvin (ranked 2408 p4p, 0 weight class). Paul Irvin acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Lugg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paul Irvin!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Ron Honeybunn and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Irvin feints and as Lugg raises his hands in defense, Irvin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Irvin pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Lugg is keeping the position for now.
Lugg looking for a sweep. Not yet Lugg, not yet.
Lugg is working hard here to advance position.
Irvin postures up.
Lugg looking to hit a scissor sweep but Irvin is one step ahead there.
Irvin is pushing down on Lugg's leg trying to pass to half guard. Lugg is fighting to maintain full guard but Irvin has managed to sneak the leg through.

Lugg wants to control but Irvin is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lugg is on top in guard.


Irvin has his foot on Lugg's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lugg works his way back into a safe position though.

Irvin felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Lugg looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Irvin dives in for a single leg takedown but Lugg sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Lugg will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Irvin bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Irvin is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Lugg frees his head nicely. Oh but Irvin has switched to an armbar! Lugg is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
