Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Irving Carney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Markus Ward!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Ian Loll and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ward dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Carney. That did some damage!
Ward misses with a combination

and Carney counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carney is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Ward defends it well.
Carney is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Carney not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ward trying to control here.
Carney thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ward's head.

Carney passes into side control, despite Ward's attempt to control the position.

Carney is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ward has escaped the position, nice work there.
Ward defending against the ground and pound.

Carney tries for a kimura but Ward is defending well.
Ward wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Carney trying to control the position but Ward is working away.
Ward struggling a bit here.

Carney looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Carney is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ward knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Ward is trying to escape the position but Carney is controlling the position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Carney is trying to get an arm triangle but Ward is defending well.
Ward is looking to reverse the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Carney is looking to clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ward feints a jab promting Carney to slip. Ward then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Carney slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.


It looks like Irving Carney has been cut.

Ward closes the distance and clinches.

Ward lands a takedown into guard.

Carney manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Ward clinches.
Ward scores with a shot to the side of Carney's head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carney holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Carney fails to pull the fight into his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Irving Carney will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Irving Carney's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Carney shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ward as he jumps to the side.
Markus Ward is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Horrible takedown attempt by Carney or perhaps it was just good defense by Ward, which made it look bad.
Carney takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carney fails with a takedown attempt.
Ward throws a counter combo.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Irving Carney. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Carney has his takedown stuffed
letting Ward counter with a right hand.


Carney is rocked!

OH! Carney has been rocked by a huge right hand and is in deep trouble! Ward smells blood and charges in for the finish! Ward unloads a vicious overhand right and connects to the jaw of Carney sending him face first to the canvas! Unbelievable!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:12 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Markus Ward!
A very excited looking Markus Ward made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
