PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Samuel Cooke (ranked 1629 p4p, 200 weight class) and Juan Fonseca (ranked 1494 p4p, 187 weight class). Cooke comes to the cage accompanied by Harm's Way - Warriors Will Reign. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Samuel Cooke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 1, fighting out of New York, Juan Fonseca!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Nard Betker and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fonseca jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Cooke shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Fonseca misses with a straight right.
Fonseca misses with a wild combination.

Cooke darts in and clinches Fonseca up against the cage.
Cooke wants a takedown but no success here.
Cooke trying to stall but Fonseca improves his position.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Fonseca has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Cooke is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Cooke uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Fonseca.

Cooke throws a series of punches but Fonseca avoids them all with ease.

Cooke throws a hook to the side of Fonseca's head but Fonseca sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

It seemed like Fonseca was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Fonseca throws a right and a left that Cooke avoids nicely.

Cooke shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Fonseca napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Cooke content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Cooke wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fonseca keeps working.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Fonseca can do anything to dispel that myth.

Fonseca seems a little lost for a moment, as Cooke dominates the positioning.

That was a close round but I would say that Samuel Cooke will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Cooke pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Cooke is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Fonseca is looking for a sweep. Cooke is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Cooke working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Cooke looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Cooke in particular looking to stall.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Cooke is pressing down on Fonseca's thigh, looking to free his foot. Fonseca is holding on for now.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fonseca does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Cooke throws a quick counter kick to the body but Fonseca avoids it.
Cooke is looking to slow Fonseca down with leg kicks.
Fonseca misses with a looping left.
Cooke throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Cooke slips a jab from Fonseca.
Cooke appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Cooke shoots for a double leg takedown but Fonseca sprawls well. He's pushed Cooke's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Fonseca is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Juan Fonseca has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Cooke keeping hold of Fonseca's head, controlling as best he can.

Cooke is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Fonseca's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Fonseca's back!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cooke, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
