PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lon Jackson (ranked 5634 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Clairo (ranked 6878 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Daniel Clairo was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Lon Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Daniel Clairo!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Glass and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Clairo misses

and Jackson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Clairo won't be happy with that.

Jackson really is a fat lump.

Jackson stands up.
Jackson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Clairo paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jackson wants to clinch up but Clairo keeps it at a distance.
Clairo throws a head kick but Jackson moves out of range.
Jackson drops down looking for a counter takedown but Clairo sprawls and moves away.

Clairo shoots in and bounces Jackson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Jackson looking for a guillotine here but Clairo defends easily.
Clairo trying to control the position from guard on top but Jackson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Clairo stays in close to Jackson's body and controls the position.
Clairo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Jackson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Jackson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Clairo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Clairo might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jackson haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Clairo seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Clairo moves into the clinch successfully.

Clairo turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Clairo manages to end up in side control.
Clairo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jackson keeps working.

Jackson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Clairo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jackson tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Clairo easily slips into full mount!
Jackson tries to lock up and control but Clairo gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Clairo throwing strikes but Jackson bucks up and reverses the position. He's now in guard on top.
Clairo has control of Jackson's left arm, preventing Jackson from doing any damage.

Clairo is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Daniel Clairo will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Clairo looks to land a right hand but Jackson moved out of range.
Clairo looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Clairo fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Jackson sprawls well initially but Clairo persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Clairo blocks the strikes from Jackson.
Daniel Clairo has got the better of the ground game so far.
Clairo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jackson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Clairo is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Jackson!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Clairo unloads with some shots from mount but Jackson bucks and avoids them well.

Jackson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Clairo is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jackson wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Clairo.

Clairo has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Clairo goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Jackson turns into him and now he's in Clairo's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel Clairo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Jackson gets tackled into the cage by Clairo. Clairo maintains the clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Clairo gets control of Jackson's arms and successfully pulls guard. Clairo will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Jackson throws a big right hand that misses.
Clairo is looking to stand up but Jackson isn't so interested in that idea.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jackson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Jackson with a flurry of punches that miss.
Jackson throws an elbow that misses. Clairo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jackson's guard. Nice move by Clairo!

Clairo is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Jackson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Daniel Clairo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Clairo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
