PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stipe Miocic (ranked 3898 p4p, 340 weight class) and Voli Bear (ranked 5154 p4p, 410 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Stipe Miocic!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Voli Bear!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miocic takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Bear avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Bear is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Miocic's half guard.

Bear seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Miocic does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Miocic definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Bear throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Bear working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Bear is keen to just control but Miocic is a slippery customer.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bear is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Miocic wants to improve his position but Bear is controlling well.
Bear throwing shots but Miocic is blocking nicely.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bear scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Bear thows a huge punch but Miocic dodges it nicely.
Miocic is trying to maintain the position but Bear is very close to passing his half guard.
Bear thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Miocic's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bear not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Miocic avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Bear.
Nice strikes from Bear there.
Bear lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Miocic quite badly. Miocic pulls Bear in close trying to recover. Bear postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Miocic on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Miocic doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Voli Bear!
During a confident post fight interview, Voli Bear thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
The defeated Stipe Miocic had this to say: 'I was injured before the fight and decided to fight with my injury for you guys. I did it for my fans, my team and this org. I don't want to make this as an excuse coz I could just decline the fight offer if so. But as long as I accepted it then to me its a lose, thank you guys for showing up tonigh'.
