Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vitaly Karelin (ranked 519 p4p, 28 weight class) and Jari Mountain (ranked 379 p4p, 18 weight class). Vitaly Karelin had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 35 - 18 - 0, fighting out of London, Vitaly Karelin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 24 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jari Mountain!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Gwen Towbar and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karelin shoots for a takedown but Mountain saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Karelin throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Karelin is defended easily by Mountain.
Karelin closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Karelin seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Mountain lands a nice leg kick that just misses Karelin's sensitive parts.
Mountain fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Mountain does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Karelin throws a lazy right hand but Mountain sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mountain bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
A bone on bone clash there as Karelin blocks the leg kick.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Karelin looks to score with a jab to the body but Mountain is just out of range.
Mountain fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Karelin has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Mountain is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Karelin.

Karelin shoots in for a double leg but Mountain sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Mountain lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Karelin lands a nice hook to Mountain's body. Mountain takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Karelin stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Mountain.
Mountain lands a leg kick that knocks Karelin off balance momentarily.
Karelin throws a good cross that connects.

A punch lands to the side of Karelin 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Mountain throws a head kick but Karelin moves out of range.
Karelin half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Karelin changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mountain looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Karelin has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Mountain.

It looked like Karelin wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Karelin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Mountain is rocked!
Karelin connects with a couple of short punches.
Mountain is still in real trouble! Can Karelin finish him?
Karelin gets to his feet and stands over Mountain, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Mountain felt that one! Karelin unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Mountain from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Vitaly Karelin!
A very excited looking Vitaly Karelin made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
