Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeffery Wood!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Russell Pearce and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wood feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Wood keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Benson's head.
Benson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Benson is trying to stand back up but Wood is controlling him

Wood perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Wood tries to pass to full mount but Benson defends it.
Wood winds up and cracks Benson with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Benson tries to roll over but Wood keeps him under control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Wood performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Wood thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Wood looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Benson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Wood to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Wood drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Wood jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Benson wants to improve his position but instead Wood has moved into half guard.

Wood stands up and beckons Benson to join him on the feet.
Benson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Wood avoids it really well and circles away.

Wood closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Benson to the mat! Benson manages to get full guard.
Benson looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Wood tries to stand but Benson is controlling from the bottom.
Benson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Wood is one step ahead there.
Wood slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Let's hope that Wood has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wood stuffs the takedown attempt from Benson. Benson gets slowly back to his feet.

Benson goes for a takedown attempt but Wood pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Wood has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Benson uses from the top position.
Wood manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Benson manages to get himself to full guard.

Benson jumps guard but Wood turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Benson blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Wood throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Benson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Wood is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Benson is aware though and is defending well.

Jeffery Wood showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!


Benson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Wood as he jumps to the side.

Wood bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Wood fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Benson sprawls well initially but Wood persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Wood slips a nice elbow through Benson's hands, connecting with Benson's forehead.

Wood slaps away a takedown attempt from Benson, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Well Wood has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
