PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Arthur Branch (ranked 5618 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Barros (ranked 25249 p4p, 0 weight class). Barros has chosen AC/DC - Thunderstruck as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Arthur Branch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alex Barros!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Radbod Blank and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barros looks for a takedown but Branch sprawls well.
Barros shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Branch sprawls well. Branch wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Barros gets slowly back to his feet.
Barros gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Branch counters with a shoot takedown. Barros fights it but they end up in guard.
Barros really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Branch. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Branch stands and steps away. Barros gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Barros.

Barros misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

and Barros cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Barros tries to score a power double leg takedown but Branch sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Barros somewhat.

Branch closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Barros quickly recovers to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Branch connects with a nice short shot to Barros's temple.

Branch lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Branch looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Barros is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Branch has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Branch stands up out of the half guard.

Branch moves into the clinch.
Branch displaying some good clinch control by pressing Barros up against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Barros goes for a takedown attempt but Branch pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

and Barros counters with a solid body kick.
Branch fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.

Barros gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Branch scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Barros wants to sweep but no luck.

Barros working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Branch doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Branch manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Branch stands up and waves to Barros to follow him.
Horrible takedown attempt by Barros or perhaps it was just good defense by Branch, which made it look bad.
Barros sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Branch throws a head kick but Barros moves out of range.
Branch looks to land a combination but Barros avoids it well.

Branch bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Barros tries to score a power double leg takedown but Branch sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Barros somewhat.

Branch manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Barros on his heels. He'll look to pass Barros's guard now, I'm sure.

Barros looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Branch is fending him off so far but Barros persists. Nope, Branch circles away and we're back to standing.
