PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Son Gohan (ranked 6848 p4p, 519 weight class) and Niudu Kakka (ranked 4175 p4p, 409 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Son Gohan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Niudu Kakka!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kakka misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gohan is defended easily by Kakka.
It seemed like Kakka was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Gohan shoots in looking for a takedown but Kakka manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gohan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Kakka throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Kakka lands with a cross.
Gohan looks for a takedown but Kakka sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Son Gohan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kakka rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gohan moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Gohan wants to sweep but no luck.

Gohan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Kakka throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gohan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Kakka stands up from Gohan's guard - Kakka perhaps looking for a knockout.
Kakka has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Gohan is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Gohan misses with a jab, cross combination.
Gohan shoots in looking for a takedown. Kakka tries to sprawl out of it but Gohan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kakka manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gohan chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Kakka can pounce on him.

and Kakka holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Kakka tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Gohan just stands there and leans against the cage.
Gohan drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kakka pulls his leg out and moves away.
Kakka tries a head kick but it misses.

Kakka tries to keep at a distance but Gohan has taken the fight into the clinch.

Gohan is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Kakka is defending well.

Kakka wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Gohan wants to get back to striking at distance but Kakka won't allow it.
Kakka gets underhooks to prevent Gohan's takedown attempt.

Kakka breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kakka scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Gohan looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Gohan is trying to drag Kakka to the mat but Kakka just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Gohan tries for a takedown. No joy.

Gohan is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Kakka can't fight it off and eventually Gohan manages to take the fight to the floor. Kakka looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Niudu Kakka dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Gohan gets tackled into the cage by Kakka. Kakka maintains the clinch.
Kakka has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kakka misses with a body punch.
Kakka stops a takedown attempt from Gohan.
Gohan tries to score a body lock takedown but Kakka shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Kakka manages to break the clinch.
Gohan will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
No joy there for Kakka, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Kakka manages to pull guard.
Gohan wants to control from the top but Kakka keeps moving.

Kakka pushes Gohan off and scrambles back to his feet.
Gohan drops his hands momentarily and Kakka takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Gohan stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Gohan wants it to stay on the feet.

Kakka defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gohan.
As Gohan backs off Kakka throws a huge counter combo but Gohan manages to avoid it all.
Kakka looks to land a body kick but Gohan moved away.
Kakka misses with a few strikes there.
Gohan wants to clinch.
Gohan sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Kakka misses with a wild body shot.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kakka.

Gohan closes the distance and clinches.

Gohan is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Kakka has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Gohan uses from the top position.

Niudu Kakka showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Son Gohan's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


A left and a right from Kakka both land. Nice combination.
Kakka closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Kakka goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Gohan misses with a takedown attempt - Kakka sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Kakka fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Gohan sprawls well initially but Kakka persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Gohan wants to stand back up but Kakka manages to pass into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gohan is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Kakka wants to work for an arm triangle but Gohan is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Kakka throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Gohan trying to hold on to Kakka's head to control him but Kakka postures up.
Gohan tries to roll over but Kakka keeps him under control.
Kakka landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Gohan is looking to improve his position.
Kakka takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kakka throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Kakka not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Gohan is trying to maintain the position but Kakka is very close to passing his half guard.

Niudu Kakka has got the better of the ground game so far.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gohan is on top in guard.

Gohan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kakka swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gohan throws a strike but Kakka rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Gohan is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kakka is aware though and is defending well.

Gohan has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kakka is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gohan.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kakka stands up and beckons Gohan to his feet.
Gohan throws a body shot but no joy.
Son Gohan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kakka shoots in and drives through. Gohan sprawls well.

Gohan gets the takedown into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Niudu Kakka is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Niudu Kakka comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kakka winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
